Cookie Monster Rolls (Soft, Gooey & Loaded with Cookies)
If cinnamon rolls and cookies had a fun, blue-loving baby, Cookie Monster Rolls would be it. These playful rolls are ultra-soft, fluffy, and packed with crushed cookies, chocolate chips, and a creamy blue frosting that screams dessert goals. Perfect for birthdays, bake sales, brunch tables, or viral social media bakes, these rolls are just as delicious as they are eye-catching.
Unlike traditional cinnamon rolls, Cookie Monster Rolls swap out cinnamon for cookie butter, crushed cookies, and chocolate, making them rich, gooey, and irresistible. Whether you’re baking for kids or adults with a sweet tooth, this recipe delivers bakery-style results at home.
What Are Cookie Monster Rolls?
Cookie Monster Rolls are soft yeast rolls filled with cookie butter, crushed chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate chips, then topped with a bright blue cream cheese frosting and extra cookies. They’re inspired by the iconic Cookie Monster character and have become popular for themed parties and dessert cafés.

How to Make Cookie Monster Rolls
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead for 8–10 minutes by hand or 5–6 minutes in a stand mixer until smooth and elastic. The dough should be soft but not sticky. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling
Crush the cookies into small chunks—not powder—so you get texture in every bite. Set aside with the chocolate chips.
Step 3: Roll and Fill
Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle about ¼-inch thick. Spread the cookie butter evenly over the surface.
Sprinkle crushed cookies and chocolate chips generously across the dough, pressing lightly so they stick.
Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log. Slice into 9–12 equal rolls.
Step 4: Second Rise
Place the rolls into a greased baking dish, leaving space between them. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
Step 5: Bake
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes, or until lightly golden and cooked through. Do not overbake—soft centers are key.
Blue Cream Cheese Frosting
While the rolls cool slightly, prepare the frosting.
Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and fluffy. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, then beat again until creamy. Add blue food coloring a little at a time until you reach a vibrant Cookie Monster blue.
Spread the frosting generously over warm (not hot) rolls so it melts slightly into the swirls.
